HELB CEO Ringera says loan applications for university students now open
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has
now opened its online portal to applications by students joining universities and
institutions of higher learning seeking government scholarships, loans and bursaries.
HELB CEO Charles Ringera, speaking during an
interview on Citizen TV’s The Explainer Show on Tuesday night, revealed that the platform
was opened on Monday at midnight.
He
said students seeking to benefit from the government funding have until August
27, 2023, to submit their applications before the window closes.
“Applications
for scholarships, loans and bursaries opened last night at midnight… we close
that application on the 27th of this month,” Ringera said.
Mr.
Ringera reminded applicants that the platform will require them to provide
vital documents including their Identity Cards (IDs) as well as those of their
parents/guardians, and admission papers from the institutions in
which they are to be absorbed.
Kenya
Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) CEO Dr Agnes
Wahome, who was also on the same platform, noted that the transfer window which
enables students/applicants to change courses and institutions would be opened next
week.
Regarding
the transfers, Ringera, therefore, advised those seeking government funding to
consider the transfer of institutions since the two services would be working
harmoniously.
“As
the data of KUCCPS is changing, it changes straight away on the platform for
funding; even if they change, then straight away it will change on the platform
of funding, meaning by the time the student is applying in another institution,
then we can seamlessly see the information coming through,” he explained.
Currently,
KUCCPS is undertaking applications for Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC)
and primary Teacher Training Courses (TTC) which will run up to Friday, August
4, this week.
