Heavy rains recorded in Marsabit within the last 24 hours - Met. Department
The Kenya
Meteorological Department now says 55.6 millimeters of rainfall have been
recorded in Marsabit County within a span of 24 hours.
The report on the
heavy rains comes amid a recent pronouncement by the government that the
anticipated El Nino rains will not be experienced across the country as earlier
predicted by the weather man.
"Marsabit
Meteorological Station, along with other stations in Marsabit County, has
measured 55.6 mm of rainfall from 9 am on October 24 to 9am this morning,"
said the weatherman in a statement on X on Wednesday.
Local reports
likewise indicate that two persons, a 70-year-old man and a six-year-old child,
have since been swept away by the raging floods.
The national government
had already dispatched resources to county governments to mitigate the effects
of the anticipated El-Nino rains.
However, following
the aforesaid Met. department prediction, the funds have reportedly been
reallocated to other areas.
