Health Workers in Rift Valley Counties receive oxygen safety training

Health workers from 42 health facilities across seven counties in the Rift Valley region were recently urged to adhere to oxygen safety protocols during a training session organized by Hewatele Limited, a leading medical oxygen manufacturing company operating in East Africa.

The counties involved in the training included Uasin Gishu, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nyandarua, Kericho, Narok, and Nakuru.

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Hewatele Limited, which manages oxygen manufacturing sites in Kenya, Somalia, and Uganda, hosted the training to promote the safe and effective administration of oxygen.

The session focused on essential safety protocols to ensure the safety of both patients and healthcare providers, aiming to minimize the risk of accidents related to oxygen use in hospital settings.

Joseph Kangor, the Director of Medical Services in Baringo County, highlighted the increasing demand for oxygen in public hospitals, stressing the need to strengthen safety measures to prevent accidents. He emphasized that the proper storage and handling of oxygen are critical in avoiding potential hazards.

Dr. James Waweru, the Medical Superintendent at Nakuru Level 5 Hospital, also spoke about the rising incidents of oxygen cylinders exploding in hospitals this year. However, he noted that these accidents could have been prevented if healthcare workers adhered to established safety guidelines.

In addition to the training, Hewatele Limited made a donation of 15 Oxytherapy sets to support needy patients in the region, reinforcing its commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the area.

The initiative aims to equip healthcare professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to safely manage oxygen therapy, ensuring better outcomes for patients and reducing the risk of accidents in healthcare facilities.
