Health officials on high alert in Kiambu as 8 more Cholera cases reported
Health officials are on high alert in Kiambu County
following the rise in cholera cases in the county.
Eight more cases were reported on Friday rising the total
number of those affected to 294.
According to the County Executive for Health Joseph Murega,
four deaths have been reported within the community in the last two months, with
more cases being reported during the festive season.
The residents have attributed the continued rise in numbers to the poor sewage system and lack of adequate clean water in some parts of the
county.
It is a situation that has seen public health officials
together with other county leaders move in. Public health officers staged a door-to-door tour of Ruiru to sensitize the community on personal and collective
responsibility in fighting the infectious disease.
“Tumeweza kuleta waterpoint ambayo tutakuwa tunapeana free
water na tunaomba wananchi na wale wanatumia maji ya visima, muwache kutumia hayo
maji kwa mapishi na kukunywa vilevile kuosha vyombo kwa sababu tumewaletea free
water mkubali kutumia hii halafu ile ingine mnaweza kutumia kuosha nguo,” said Biashara
MCA Kimani Nduta.
According to Kimani, they have collected water samples and
shared with Ruiru Water and Sewarage Company for testing even as he urged food
vendors to maintain high standards of hygiene in order to stop the disease from
spreading.
Twenty-eight people are currently admitted in different
hospitals within the county.
