Boniface Mwangi Kariuki, the hawker who was shot and left with
life-threatening injuries during Tuesday’s demonstrations, has undergone a
second delicate surgery to remove bullet fragments still lodged in his head.
Mwangi remains in critical condition, fully dependent on life
support at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
His family is appealing to the government to deliver justice
and ensure that the police officers responsible face the full force of the law.
On Tuesday, doctors removed the bullet in a delicate, complex
surgery. But on Thursday, Boniface was wheeled back into the theatre - this
time, to extract fragments that had remained dangerously lodged in his head.
For four agonizing hours, surgeons worked against the odds.
When they emerged, Boniface was returned to the ICU, still clinging to life,
still relying on machines to keep him breathing.
Outside, his family clings to hope - that he will pull
through, hope that this nightmare will end. But beyond hope, they want answers.
They want justice.
They are calling on the government to act, to ensure that those behind the shooting are held accountable, and that no other family endures the pain they now carry.
