Former Mombasa
Governor Hassan Joho says the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) should be the
party that forms the next government.
Speaking to
the media in Mombasa, Joho stated that if he were to vie for the presidency, it
would be through an ODM ticket.
"If I
express my interest in vying for the presidency, I shall only vie through
ODM," he said.
Joho mentioned
that he is working with other ODM leaders from the Western region on how to
propel the party forward.
The former
governor responded to individuals who stated that he was a new ODM member. He
stated that he has faced the most political challenges for standing firm with
the ODM party.
“I am a
founder member of ODM. When you count the first ten members, I am among
them," said Joho.
“No one has
faced political woes because of standing firm with ODM and Raila Odinga more
than me," he added, referring to the party’s leader.
Joho mentioned
that there are values that he has inherited from the ODM leader.
“When I began
politics in 2004, my leader has always been Raila Amollo Odinga. I have not
lost my way, so I know the values of Raila Amollo Odinga," he said.
His sentiments
come after Odinga picked former governors Hassan Joho and Wycliffe Oparanya to
lead the party should he succeed in his bid to be the next African Union
Commission Chairperson.
Odinga was speaking at an ODM recruitment drive in Wajir County where he asserted that the two leaders had what it takes to unite the opposition and Kenyans at large.
