Haiti deployment to delay- Whitman says change of gov't complicating matters

Kenyan troops to Haiti will only set foot in the troubled Caribbean nation when there are structures in the country and Haiti is ready to receive them.  

American Ambassador to Kenya Meg Whitman while speaking in Nyeri County on Monday said that it could take some time before the Kenya troops land in Haiti. 

Whitman says the change of government in the Caribbean nation has complicated matters. 

“These are very complicated missions, this is not a UN peacekeeping mission, it is a different kind of mission, police need to be trained, to be vetted, and the Department of Defence needs to set up the camp in Haiti where the police will go and the UN trust fund needs to be set up so that Kenya can be given the money to undertake this Haiti mission... and these things take time, so there is nothing unusual it's just that these things take time,” she said.
