Emotions ran high as mourners described the late legislator as a humble and dedicated servant, vowing to remain at his home until his final send-off.
“Sisi kama wakazi wa Emurwa Dikiiri ni mshtuko kubwa… hatukulala… tulipiga nduru usiku kutwa,” one resident said, as grief and wailing filled the homestead.
Among those paying tribute was Ngeno’s close friend Alfred Ngeno, who said they schooled together at Mogondo Primary School and recalled how the late MP’s leadership traits emerged early.
“Tulisoma naye… tuliona vile Ngeno alikuwa akiongea… maana tuli amua kumpa uongozi,” he said.
Another resident said Ngeno was fearless and focused on serving his constituents.
“Ngenoh hakuwa na uoga… alifanya kila kitu for the benefit of the people he represented,” he said.
Former Bomet governor Isaac Ruto was among leaders who visited the home to offer condolences. The late Kipkalya Kones’ son Julius Kones also arrived to console the family, describing the lawmaker as a leader who loved his people.
“He is somebody who loved his people… we are shocked,” Kones said.
The mood remained sombre as residents gathered in small groups, speaking in low tones as they pondered what next for the constituency.
