Greydale Africa and ICT Ministry host landmark digital transformation event in Mombasa

The Landmark Digital Transformation and Public Sector (DTPS) forum and awards event, organized by Greydale Africa and the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, was held in Mombasa on February 22nd and 23rd, 2024.

The event highlighted the convergence of technology and governance, showcasing how both the public and private sectors are embracing digital solutions to enhance service delivery with a citizen-centric approach.

The two-day event, in partnership with Amazon Web Services as the platinum sponsor, Computer Revolution Africa, Intel Africa, and others, featured ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo delivering a speech using a robot on the first day. He emphasized the importance of digitizing the Kenyan economy, citing examples such as establishing 1250 digital hubs in villages, training 119,000 individuals, and enabling 135,471 youth to access digital jobs.

"This forum provides a platform for state agency leaders to learn from each other's experiences and share best practices in driving digitization. It's an opportunity to celebrate and showcase success stories within public institutions, inspiring others to follow suit," said CS Owalo.

PS State Department for ICT and the Digital Economy, Eng. John Tanui, MBS, described the event as a significant milestone, focusing on up-skilling the public sector, as its success relies heavily on the capacity and capability of its offices.

Lavinniah Muthoni Mwongera, Greydale's managing partner, who co-hosted the forum, stated that the DTPS forum and awards provided a platform for leaders in the public and private sectors to have candid conversations that would advance government digitization initiatives, leveraging technology to improve effectiveness, efficiency, and service delivery.

During the forum, experts from organizations such as the African Development Bank (AfDB), Data Commissioner, Communication Authority, Konza Technopolis, and ICTA discussed Kenya's digital transformation journey.

They highlighted progress made, challenges faced, and future strategies, emphasizing the need for policy frameworks that align with the digital future and ensure data security compliance and cybersecurity awareness across all organizations.

The event concluded with the awards ceremony, where the County Government of Nyandarua was recognized as the overall winner of the Digital Transformation Public Sector Awards in 2024.
