Gov’t urges hospitals to adopt SHA, ensure uninterrupted service delivery

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting healthcare facilities following the SHA rollout, ensuring that patient care remains uninterrupted.

"Following the successful national rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA) on October 1st, 2024, the Ministry of Health directs all healthcare providers and facilities to ensure that services for SHA members remain uninterrupted," Kimtai stated.

"The Ministry is committed to supporting healthcare providers in maintaining seamless operations, ensuring patients continue to receive the care they need during this transition," he added.

In light of the transition from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to SHA, the ministry encouraged hospitals to continue providing treatment services, while commending the positive adoption of SHA by healthcare facilities.

"The Ministry is encouraged by the positive response from healthcare facilities, with many already signing contracts under the SHA’s Healthcare Provider (HCP) provisions," Kimtai said.

"Hospitals are urged to continue offering services in line with these agreements, ensuring no patient is turned away and that essential treatments such as kidney dialysis, cancer care, and maternity services remain fully accessible."

Additionally, the PS noted that the Ministry would offer support to healthcare providers to address any operational concerns and ensure that all patients, including those requiring surgeries, receive uninterrupted care.

Kimtai also highlighted that the government would use social media and SHA websites to inform the public about member registration, dependents, and access to services.
