The National Assembly Committee on Sports and Culture has raised concerns over the possible misappropriation of funds within the State Department for Culture, Arts, and Heritage.

This follows a plan to develop a Ksh.50 million digital platform app, intended to help small-scale traders market their items online.

Appearing before the committee, the Principal Secretary for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, Ummi Bashir, stated that the development of the "world-class" app is already underway.

Lawmakers also expressed concerns regarding the department's plan to spend Ksh.100 million shillings on developing a "Kenyan dress."

The State Department, under PS Ummi Bashir, might have set a record for creating one of the most expensive digital platforms. While appearing before the National Assembly Sports and Culture Committee on Thursday, the PS revealed that the project to develop the "Sanaa App" had been awarded at a total cost of 50 million shillings.

"Why is this app costing 50 million shillings? I think it’s too much," questioned Bomet East MP Richard Yegon.

In response, PS Bashir stated, "This app will help people sell their artifacts."

The State Department claims that this state-of-the-art app is designed as a high-end marketing platform for small-scale traders to showcase their products. They also emphasized that it will be the first of its kind in Africa.
