Gov't to digitise police services by April 2025

Interior PS Raymond Omollo holds a meeting with European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger on January 14, 2025.

Kenyans will no longer be required to visit a police station to report incidents as the Interior Ministry plans to introduce a digital system for processing offences beginning April 2025.

This was primarily discussed during a meeting between Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo and European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger on Monday.

The digital system, envisioned to be a game-changer, will also see the police service process fines and implement a digital occurrence book.

"Building on the Security and Defense strategic dialogue with Development Partners held in the final quarter of last year, the Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo met with the European Union Ambassador to Kenya, Henriette Geiger to discuss support for the digitization of National Police Service operations," the statement read in part.

"Central to these efforts is the introduction of a digital system for processing traffic fines and the implementation of a digital occurrence book."

The digital OB was initially conceptualised in 2023 to enhance transparency and eliminate the disappearance of case records at police stations.

The new development is part of the State's pledge to avail of over 5,000 government services online.
