Gov't sets record straight on Dr. Mbae’s exit from GDU

The Government Delivery Unit has released a statement in response to media reports of Dr. Peter Mbae's alleged resignation from the unit.

According to the statement issued on Monday, January 13, Dr. Mbae's employment with the Government Delivery Services (GDS), now the GDU, will end on July 11, 2024, following the dissolution of the cabinet.

Amos Gatheca, Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Public Service and Human Capital Development, stated that Dr. Mbae's role was linked to the portfolio of Moses Kuria, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance, and Delivery Management at the time.

The GDU emphasised that formal communication regarding the conclusion of Dr. Mbae’s contract was issued on July 24, 2024, by the then Principal Secretary of the State Department for Performance and Delivery Management.

The statement further noted that all dues owed to Dr. Mbae were settled promptly, with no outstanding financial or contractual obligations.

The GDU refuted allegations of unfavourable working conditions raised by Dr. Mbae, describing them as baseless.

The statement also underscored that operations have continued uninterrupted since his departure.

On July 12, 2024, Mr. Lee Kyonze, OGW, was appointed as Acting Head of the GDU, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.

“It is misleading and inaccurate to portray Dr. Mbae’s departure as a resignation occurring in January 2025. Dr. Mbae cannot purport to resign from a position he does not hold,” the statement from the GDU notes.

The Ministry urged the public and all stakeholders to disregard any misleading information regarding the GDU's leadership or operations.
