Govt releases Ksh.2B for March payment to Inua Jamii beneficiaries
The government
has released Ksh. 2,076,610,000 for March payment to beneficiaries of the Inua
Jamii programme, the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said Monday.
Principal
Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Joseph Motari said a
further Ksh.4,992,500 was disbursed for the Nutrition Improvement through Cash and
Health Education (NICHE) complimentary programme.
Payments
will commence on Monday, the PS said, adding that beneficiaries will receive
through the M-Pesa mobile banking platform.
“This
started with the orphans and vulnerable children and persons with severe
disabilities caregivers who access their stipends by dialling *222#,” said
Motari.
“Older
persons cash transfer beneficiaries will continue to receive their stipends
through their Inua Jamii bank accounts.”
The Inua
Jamii programme supports vulnerable members of the community by providing
them
with a stipend to cushion them from poverty and hunger.
The programme
benefits over 1.2 million orphans and vulnerable children, citizens aged over
70 and persons with severe disabilities.
