Gov’t releases Ksh.2 billion towards Inua Jamii Fund

Social Protection and Senior Citizens Affairs Principal Secretary Joseph Motari.

The government has released Ksh.2 billion towards the Inua Jamii Fund which targets vulnerable groups such as orphans and Persons Living with Disabilities (PLWDs), as well as senior citizens.

Through the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the government on Monday further transferred Ksh.4.3 million for complimentary nutrition and health education programme.

Joseph Motari, the Principal Secretary for Social Protection and Senior Citizens Affairs said the money is expected to benefit one million beneficiaries. Each beneficiary will receive Ksh.2,000 monthly.

Addressing journalists in Nairobi, Motari attributed the delay of the July reimbursement to system glitches which he said have since been ironed out, adding that payments will be made between the 15th and 20th of every month.

“The President has directed that these funds be reimbursed even before civil servants’ salaries so the payments will be made in time going forward,” the PS said.

Last week, Motari announced that they had finally released over Ksh.8.36 billion for the program after a delay. This was the second tranche for the month of March, April, May and June.

As a result, each elderly person was set to receive Ksh.8,000.
