Gov’t now blames Finance Bill protests on ‘foreign influence’

The government is now blaming the protests against the Finance Bill 2024 on unspecified foreign powers.

Government spokesman Isaac Mwaura claims that President William Ruto’s stance on various reforms on the world stage may have caused actors he did not name to camouflage in the protests.

He cited Ruto’s climate action campaign among the issues that might have unsettled the so-called foreign powers.

“There is a group somewhere which from my assessment could be foreign influence into this whole issue. Why? Our president has repeated himself clearly on international stages that we have to act on climate change. He has rallied the whole of Africa until it came together; maybe some people are not happy,” said Mwaura.

Mwaura who spoke following an intense week of youth-led protests across several towns and cities in Kenya over the proposed law added that the government will offer a listening ear to the ongoing protests.

“We have great visions and we are open to listening to Kenyans. Where we have gone wrong, forgive us but let us not do things at the expense of our country,” he said.
