Interior Cabinet Secretary CS Fred
Matiang'i has declared December 27, 2021 a public holiday.
The
holiday, the CS says, is meant to observe Boxing Day celebrations which are
usually held on December 26, but owing to the fact that the day after Christmas
falls on a Sunday, the festivity has been pushed forward to the 27th.
"In
line with provisions of Section 2 and 4 of the public holidays act, it is
hereby confirmed that 27th December 2021, will be a public holiday, by dint of
Boxing Day falling on Sunday 26 December 2021," Matiang'i said in a
statement on Friday.
The
day, which is globally celebrated by exchange of gifts and engagement in
sports, the CS added, will offer Kenyans the opportunity to uphold their
heritage of genorosity and cultural diversity.
"All
citizens are encouraged to recognise and celebrate the day in a manner that
promotes family values and social cohesion," the CS said.
