The Ministry of Health, through the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB), has issued a public alert warning Kenyans against the use of certain batches of Paracetamol 1000mg/100ml injection currently circulating in the market over quality concerns.

In a notice on Thursday, PPB CEO Dr. Fred Siyoi revealed that the affected products, manufactured by KamlaAmrut Pharmaceutical LLP in India, exhibited a suspicious colour change, prompting immediate regulatory intervention.

The three substandard injections identified include Lumidol Injection – Batch Numbers CM4594007, CM4594008, and CM4594009; Blink Injection – Batch Numbers CS4594005 and CS4594004; and Paragen Injection – Batch Number K4290027.

PPB further noted that all the listed products were imported from the same Indian manufacturer.

The board has since urged all pharmaceutical outlets, healthcare providers, and the public to immediately cease the distribution, sale, and use of these specific batches.

It has further directed that any stock held should be returned to the nearest healthcare facility or supplier.

“In execution of our mandate to protect and promote the health of the public, we have flagged these products as substandard due to observable changes in appearance. Continued use poses a potential health risk,” stated Dr. Siyoi.

The board reiterated its commitment to ensuring access to quality, safe, and effective medicines in Kenya and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of substandard drugs.
