Governor Wamatangi orders probe into erroneous referrals, corruption at Kiambu hospitals
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has ordered
investigations into allegations of malpractice by some hospitals in the county,
following claims of erroneous referrals aimed at defrauding patients.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of Uthiru
Hospital in Kabete, Wamatangi highlighted increasing cases of collusion
between health workers and private facilities, where patients are directed to
seek services and purchase drugs from specific private health facilities.
He emphasized that the county had made substantial
investments to ensure the availability of drugs and services in public
hospitals and reiterated his commitment to delivering quality and affordable
healthcare to the residents of Kiambu.
"Unajua mtu anakuja hapa ya kichwa ni panadol; alafu
mwenye kuandika anaandika dawa ingine alafu anaambiwa enda kwa chemist ile kwa
corner,” said Wamatangi.
“Na sasa nawaambia kama kuna mkora mmoja kati ya watu
ishirini, kuja tuongee, mtusaidie kutoa huyo mkora. Kama ni in-charge wa hii
facility, kuja useme ni huyu na huyu, tutoe hao watu ndio watusaidie kumaliza
hii shida.”
In his remarks, Wamatangi stressed the need to eliminate
corrupt individuals within the healthcare system, urging staff to come forward
and expose any wrongdoers.
