Governor Natembeya puts Trans Nzoia gov't doctors running private clinics on notice
Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya has issued a stern warning
against government hospital doctors running private clinics to the detriment of
their day jobs.
Governor Natembeya on
Monday said no
medical officer from Trans Nzoia will be allowed to serve public hospital and at the same time attend to their own private clinics due to what he called conflict of interest.
“You should stick your feet at the
hospital you have been employed to work, not having one leg at your business and another at
your duty station. You are employed by the government so stick to the public
hospital,” Natembeya said.
“We
have over 100 medical doctors but you can’t find them in our hospitals because
they are busy doing their private things and we will not allow it. You should
report to work like every other civil servant.”
To
ensure that the directive is enforced, the governor said top senior county health
officials, led by the County Executive Committee Member, will have offices in
government hospitals.
“In order to improve health care and service
delivery, under my administration, the chief executive Committee Member for
health, Chief Officer, director and senior medical officers will have their
offices in hospitals for proper supervision and service delivery,” Natembeya
said.
The governor further pledged to ensure health worker’s salaries
are up to par and that they are released on time.
