Governor Godhana, MP Hiribae Buya arrested over inter-clan clashes in Tana River
According to DCI boss Amin Mohamed, the pair were arrested for failing to honour summons in regards to ongoing clashes in Tana River.
“It is true we have arrested Tana River Governor and Galole MP Said Hiribae. The two politicians were summoned to our offices over the ongoing clashes in Tana River but they failed to honor summons,” said Mohamed.
“We are looking forward to prosecuting those who will be found culpable over what is being witnessed in Tana River, when we are through with the probe.”
Reports indicate that Gaddae availed himself at the DCI headquarters on Saturday while Buya was apprehended at his Nyali home in the early hours of Saturday morning, around 2 a.m., before being detained at Makupa Police Station.
He is currently being interrogated by police at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road.
The pair’s arrest comes just hours after five politicians from Tana River County were summoned to appear before the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) on Monday for questioning regarding allegations of inciting conflict between two communities which has led to the deaths of 14 people within a week.
The summon came after six more people were killed on Thursday, only a few days after eight others had been killed.
The five politicians included Tana River County Woman Representative Amina Dika Abdullahi, former Woman Representative Rehema Hassan, Bura MP Yakub Adow Kuno, Galole MP Hiribae Said Buya, and Bangale Ward Representative Jibril Mahamud Farah.
