Governor Achani launches major road upgrades to boost economy

Ongoing construction projects include the 2.8-kilometer Kona Polisi-Msambweni County Referral Hospital road in Msambweni Sub-County and the 6-kilometer Tiwi-Vinuni road in Matuga Constituency.
These improvements will make it easier for people to get around, especially those who need to use government services like Msambweni County Referral Hospital and Kwale Sub-County Hospital.
Governor Achani reaffirmed her administration's commitment to infrastructure development as a driver of economic growth.
"This road is essential for traders, farmers, and residents who depend on it for daily transport. Its rehabilitation will ensure smoother movement, lower transport costs, and economic empowerment for our people," she said.
Ali Joto, the Kwale County Executive Committee Member for Roads, emphasized the project's importance in addressing infrastructure challenges.
"This initiative is crucial in mitigating poor road conditions, especially for patients requiring emergency medical care," Joto stated.
Kwale County has built 20 kilometers of new roads over the last two years, including the Mwangwei-Majoreni route.
An additional 10.8 kilometers are currently under construction in various parts of the county, including the Tsimba-Vyongwani road in Matuga Constituency and the Mkilo-Kalalani-Mavirivirini road in Kinango Sub-County.
Residents, led by Najma Mohammed, have urged swift project completion, citing long-standing transportation challenges.
"For years, patients and expectant mothers have suffered due to the poor road conditions. This renovation will bring much-needed relief to the community," Mohammed said.
Additionally, over 10 kilometers of beach access roads have been upgraded with cabro paving, benefiting the tourism sector.
More than 92 floodlights have been installed countywide, enhancing security, while over 150 solar-powered streetlights now illuminate key areas, including Diani, a major tourist hub.
Under Achani’s leadership, Kwale County aims to expand its road network from 3,833 kilometers to 6,833 kilometers within five years, reflecting a steadfast commitment to infrastructure development.
