Gideon Moi recovering after surgery following campaign rally injury
Former
Baringo Senator and KANU Party Chairman Gideon Moi has made his first
appearance since losing his seat at the 2022 General Elections.
Moi
on Tuesday paid a courtesy call to Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who
revealed that the ex-lawmaker was recovering from an injury sustained during
the just-ended political season.
According
to Kalonzo, Moi fell while campaigning in Suswa and had to undergo surgery, but
is presently up and about as he recuperates.
“This afternoon Senator Gideon Moi paid me a courtesy call at my Nairobi residence. I'm glad to see that he is recuperating well after a fall during a campaign rally in Suswa that required surgery. My family and I wish him well and a quick recovery,” wrote Kalonzo.
Moi,
according to his social media activity, was last spotted in public on August 5,
2022 while campaigning in Tiaty Constituency, Baringo County.
He
was flanked by area MP William Kamket, who was on August 9 elected on Moi’s
KANU Party which was in the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya fold, but has since
decamped to President-elect William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza camp.
Moi
lost his Baringo Senate seat to William Cheptumo of the Ruto-led United
Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Cheptumo, who previously served as Baringo North MP for 15
years, trounced Moi after garnering 141,777 votes against the former Senator’s 71,408
votes.
