'KANU still in OKA,' Gideon Moi says as he denies fallout with Kalonzo
This after KANU Secretary General Nick Salat hit out Kalonzo over allegedly playing hard ball on the impending OKA-Azimio grand coalition, further asking Moi to leave OKA and the Wiper party leader.
Moi however says that they, as OKA, are still united and fielding talks with Azimio la Umoja to form the coalition ahead of the August polls.
"KANU is firmly in OKA and we are united as a coalition. Our position is that our talks with Azimio and any other parties must be structured, open and honest," he said.
"Therefore, KANU has not changed its position whatsoever as reported by a section of the media."
Moi said they will keep talking to interested parties "until an amicable position has been attained in the on-going talks."
The late former president Daniel arap Moi's son was speaking after meeting with former president Mwai Kibaki's son Jimmy Kibaki, accompanied by former Vice President Kalonzo.
The Baringo Senator was reacting to reports that he has threatened to quit OKA for Raila's Azimio la Umoja movement should Kalonzo fail to state his stand by Saturday.
The Azimio team has a planned National Delegates Convention (NDC) on Saturday where Raila is expected to be named the coalition's flag bearer as parties forming the alliance sign an agreement to work together.
The rumour mill went on overdrive after Nick Salat, KANU's Secretary General, told his party boss to stop "baby sitting" Kalonzo and join Azimio.
"What does this person really want? What is he up to? Chairman, please don't stick to this man for long, if he is not willing, leave him alone, let us go. For how long are we going to babysit him? With or without him, we have to go," said Salat on Wednesday during the launch of the KANU manifesto.
