George Okode retains his seat as Speaker of Siaya County Assembly

Mr. Okode was declared the winner in an election conducted by 40 members of Siaya County Assembly, presided over by the Assembly’s Acting Clerk Mr. Erick Ogenga. 

Okode who was first elected as the Speaker of Siaya County Assembly in 2013, will now serve his third term in the same capacity.

The Siaya County Assembly Speaker’s seat had attracted 12 candidates who picked their application forms but only 10 returned the forms to the office of the clerk.

However as at Tuesday morning, only the two candidates had been cleared and shortlisted to run for the post in an exercise that was conducted in the County Assembly chambers.

The third County Assembly of Siaya convened its first sitting today in an event that saw the 40 members taking an oath of office before the speaker election.
