Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called on Kenyans
to support his new political party, set to be launched in May, promising it
will be the best alternative to the ruling Kenya Kwanza.
Gachagua says the party will field candidates for all
positions, with the goal of sending the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)
packing.
Gachagua revealed that the new party will have strong
leadership from Kajiado, with the national chairman hailing from the county.
He said: “Tunaunda chama yetu ya siasa, hiyo chama watu wa
Kajiado ndio mtaongoza. Hiyo chama yetu mpya tutatangaza mwezi wa tano na
National Chairman wa chama chetu mpya atatoka hapa Kajiado. Tutasimamisha mtu
kutoka Rais, Governor, Senator, Mbunge, Women Rep mpaka MCA Mko tayari?"
As President William Ruto plans his tour of Mt. Kenya counties
next week, Gachagua took a swipe at the Head of State, accusing him of making
empty promises.
"Yule jamaa pia alidanganya mimi…alikuja na bibilia
akasema mwathani agochwo tukafikiria ni mkristo, kumbe alikuwa ni fisi amevaa
ngozi ya kondoo," said Gachagua.
Despite facing criticism from some leaders in his Mt. Kenya
backyard for prioritizing a Mt. Kenya agenda in national politics, Gachagua is
now embracing a broader narrative, calling for unity among Kenyans and an end
to ethnic divisions.
Gachagua stated: "Nataka muungane muishi pamoja na muoane
na kuondoa ukabila."
Several leaders in Kajiado, including Kajiado Senator Lenku
Seki and Kajiado North MP Onesmus Ngogoyo, have been strong supporters of
Gachagua’s political ambitions, with Gachagua banking on his selection of a
party chairman from the region to boost his popularity further.
