Gachagua reaches out to Uhuru in bid to unite Mt. Kenya region

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is out to mend fences with former President Uhuru Kenyatta in what he describes as a push to unify the Mt. Kenya region.

The deputy president said he has put his political animosity aside and instead wants a united Mt. Kenya region.

Gachagua who spoke in his Agikuyu language, termed Uhuru Kenyatta as one of the mountain's sons and must also join hands for the region's unity.

"We said all people; those who were in UDA, Jubilee, Azimio, if we are talking like me, let's forgive one another and unite. Even Uhuru Kenyatta is our child, let him come we walk together, is that okay?" Gachagua said.

The deputy president who has been in constant fights with the former president says the olive branch is meant to diffuse political tensions in the Central Kenya region and bring the community to coalesce together for the benefit of the region.

“Do you have a problem with Uhuru Kenyatta? isn't the elections over like a game of football? if we do not love one another or if we are not in agreement, we could encounter problems," Gachagua added.

Gachagua's remarks come a week after the Limuru III meeting announced that Uhuru Kenyatta will be the Mt Kenya spokesperson and will guide the newly formed Haki coalition.

The meeting accused the deputy president of ignoring the plight of residents in the Mt Kenya region two years since his ascension to office.

“We resolve that Uhuru Kenyatta is our spokesman,” said Former Laikipia Governor Nderitu Muriithi.

Gachagua's roadside announcement of his intentions to reach out to the former president came a few hours after he told a church gathering in Kirinyaga that he had been away from the public eye for the better part of a week to reflect on the state of the country.

“I was deep in the heart of Mt. Kenya, I was praying, fasting and meditating,” DP said.

His so-called Mt. Kenya sojourn happened at a time when there were reports of a souring relationship with his boss President William Ruto.

Gachagua has been championing the one man, one shilling, one vote, revenue sharing formula, a surprise stand that attracted criticism and praises in equal measure.
