Gachagua accuses gov't of unleashing gang to disrupt wife's meeting

Impeached DP Rigathi Gachagua chairs a multi-agency meeting on September 10, 2024.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has shifted blame to the government after a prayer meeting organised by his wife Pastor Dorcas Rigathi was invaded by Maina Njenga and a group of youths.

The meeting was held in Kamukunji Grounds, Nyeri County on Saturday when Njenga suddenly walked in causing mayhem, and even forcing Pastor Dorcas to leave.

Staging a defense for her, Gachagua took to X fingering the State for the invasion, accusing Njenga of being a gang leder and he is being to spark chaos in the nation.

"Unleashing the leader of an outlawed criminal gang and his goons to disrupt peaceful prayers and desecrate the altar is the lowest any Government can go no matter the level of desperation," he wrote.

The incident comes amid the heated political tensions in the Mt.Kenya region after Gachagua was impeached from the nation's second powerful political seat.

He has since launched a bare-knuckle attack on the State and President William Ruto, urging residents from the region to be wary of him in the 2027 General Election.

Njenga resurfaced after Gachagua ouster, raising speculations that he is poised to tackle Gachagua and steer the vote-rich region in favour of President Ruto.

The former Mungiki leader has however dismissed claims that he is Ruto’s new point man in the central region.

“I am aligning with Kenyans. Right now we want unity. I was an Azimio person,” Njenga said speaking to Hot 96 on January 13.

He has also scoffed at Gachagua's claims saying: “He (Gachagua) wants to take me to The Hague yet he is toothless. That is just yapping.”.
