From Nairobi to New Orleans: Boniface Makori wins inaugural Procera Gin bartender competition

Makori's triumph came from his inventive cocktail, which seamlessly blended local Kenyan botanicals with cutting-edge techniques to highlight Procera Gin's premium quality.

“This win means so much to me,” Makori said after his victory. “It’s not just about personal achievement but about showing the world the incredible potential of African mixology. I’m thrilled to represent Kenya and Procera Gin at such a prestigious global event.”

The Tales of the Cocktail competition is a prestigious event in the international spirits industry, attracting top bartenders, brands, and enthusiasts from all over the world.

It offers a platform for innovation, education, and networking, making it the perfect stage for Makori to shine.

Procera Gin CEO Guy Brennan praised the competition and Makori’s exceptional talent. “Boniface represents everything Procera Gin stands for: creativity, craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for African ingredients.

The competition, held in collaboration with Bartales East Africa, sought to elevate Kenya's bartending scene by empowering local talent and providing a platform for global exposure.

The participants were tasked with creating cocktails that highlighted the distinct flavours of Procera Gin, a luxury African spirit known for its artisanal distillation process and unique ingredients.

Judges, including renowned mixologists and industry experts, praised the overall quality of entries but singled out Makori’s creation for its innovation and complexity.

“Boniface’s cocktail was not just a drink—it was an experience,” one judge remarked. “His use of local botanicals and attention to detail made his creation stand out in an incredibly competitive field.”

Makori’s win comes at a pivotal moment for Kenya’s hospitality industry. Tales of the Cocktail board member John Gakuru emphasized the significance of this milestone.
