From bomb expert, to crime buster: What we know about 10 officers gunning to replace Kinoti
On Tuesday, October 11, the ten will face a panel for interviews that will be conducted at the Kenya School of Government, lower Kabete in Nairobi.
In a statement on Sunday, NPSC Chairman Eliud Kinuthia invited the Public to submit credible written memorandum on any of the candidates.
“The list comprises of senior seasoned detectives and forensic experts who have risen through the ranks and served the nation in various capacities in the security sector,” the Directorate of Criminal Investigations said.
Who are the 10 candidates shortlisted?
1. Amin Ibrahim Mohamed
Mr. Ibrahim is currently heading the Internal Affairs Unit and has also served in various capacities including heading the CID Investigations Bureau and the Banking Fraud Investigations Unit among other senior positions.
2. Bernard Barasa Walumoli
Mr Barasa is the incumbent Coast Regional Criminal Investigations officer. He previously served as the Central RCIO and in the elite Serious Crimes Unit.
3. Eliud Kipkoech Lagat
Mr. Lagat is the current Director of Reforms at DCI headquarters. He is an explosives and post blasts expert who headed the forensic Bomb disposal unit prior to his current posting. He is also an alma mater of the National Defence College of Kenya.
4. Gideon Nyale Munga
Mr Munga Nyale is the current Principal Assistant to the Inspector General at the National Police Service headquarters in Nairobi. He is a former Director of DCI’s Anti Terrorism Police Unit.
5. Esther Chepkosgei Seroney
Ms. Seroney is currently the County Police Commander in Bomet.
6. David Kipkosgey Birech
ACP Birech is the head of Police Reforms.
7. Jonyo Michael Wiso
Mr. Wiso is a former head of Legal Services at DCI Headquarters and is now eyeing the Director position.
8. Nicholas Ireri Kamwende
Mr. Ireri is the former Nairobi regional DCI Chief and is currently serving as the Director of Planning at DCI headquarters.
Prior to his current role in the DCI, he was the Director of Forensics services and has had stints at the Anti-Narcotics & Banking Fraud Units.
9. Paul Jimmie Ndambuki
Mr. Ndambuki has previously served at INTERPOL HQs in Lyon France and at the DCI Academy.
10. Dr. Simon Mwangi Wanderi
Dr. Wanderi is currently serving as the head of DCI Railways command. Before this, he was a long serving Director of Personnel at DCI headquarters a top crime buster in the Flying Squad.
On September 27, President William Ruto announced the resignation of DCI boss George Kinoti, inviting NPSC to start the process of recruiting a new director.
Notably, Massa Hamisi Salim who was appointed by NPSC to serve as the DCI director in acting capacity is not in the list of candidates slated for interviews.
