From 55 to 4; The presidential aspirants IEBC has cleared to run for top office
From a list of 55 aspirants who
were hoping to contest for Kenya's top job, the ambitious list has now been
whittled down to just four candidates, with the race some two months away.
Among those cleared to vie for
the top seat is Azimio La Umoja flag-bearer, Raila Odinga as well as UDA's
William Ruto who is seeking to succeed his boss.
Raila and his running mate Martha
Karua were cleared on Sunday, before embarking on a series of rallies across
Nairobi and Nakuru.
DP Ruto on the other hand,
alongside his running mate, the Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, were cleared to
run on Saturday after presenting his credentials.
Also cleared to vie on Saturday
is Agano Party's David Mwaure, a career Senior Counsel who is seeking the top
job for the second time.
Mr. Mwaure’s running mate is Ruth
Mutua.
The fourth presidential contender
is George Wajackoyah who has a lofty proposition of settling Kenya's ballooning
public debt by legalizing bhang.
Mr. Wajackoya will be seeking the
country’s highest office with his running mate Justina Wambui Wamae.
The Independent Electoral and
Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to gazette the four’s names on Wednesday,
June 8.
Now that they have graduated from just presidential aspirants to candidates now, the four will be provided with at least ten armed police officers by the State.
In the next two months leading up
to the General Election when the candidates will be traversing the country with
their running mates to woo voters, they will be flanked by police officers.
