French President Emmanuel Macron has lauded President William Ruto for supporting climate action initiatives ahead of the inaugural Africa Climate Summit (ACS) slated to be held in Nairobi between September 4 - 6, 2023.

Speaking on Monday when delivering a speech on France's foreign policy, Macron commended Ruto for his efforts while adding that France and all its allies will work together to support the initiative.

"President Ruto is committed to that effort (climate change initiatives) and I commend him for that. France and its friends will stand alongside him; we will roll out the Paris Agreement for people on the planet," said Macron.

"We will set up the Nairobi Summit and the COP28 talks; we will have new financing arrangements and newer and faster tools. We will mobilise the private sector as well. We also need to build new ambitions when it comes to energy. France will drive a very clear agenda."

Over 25 Heads of State and thousands of dignitaries are expected to attend the Nairobi summit which aims to champion a positive, climate-compatible vision for Africa.

The summit will focus on the theme, ‘Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World.’

"With the expectation of escalating climate crises in terms of frequency and intensity, urgent action is required to mitigate these challenges," reads the ACS website

"The summit will serve as a platform to inform, frame and influence commitments, pledges and outcomes, ultimately leading to the development of the Nairobi Declaration."
