Freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi to be buried on May 13 - DP Gachagua
The late freedom fighter Mukami Kimathi will be laid to rest at her family home in Njabini, Nyandarua County on Saturday, May 13, in a funeral service the state will be considerably involved in.
This is according to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua who, on President William Ruto's instructions, hosted the family of the celebrated revolutionary at Harambee House on Friday.
"In consultation with the family, we have agreed that the funeral service will be held on Saturday at her home in Njabini, Nyandarua County. President Ruto will lead the government during the service," Gachagua said in a statement.
He added that Interior Principal Secretary (PS) Dr. Raymond Omollo will chair the national funeral committee tasked with planning Mukami's funeral.
At the county level, Nyandarua Governor Moses Ndirangu will likewise lead a similar committee.
Mukami, the widow of celebrated freedom
fighter Dedan Kimathi, passed away at a city hospital on Thursday night aged
101.
The deceased has been in and out of
hospital since January 5 when she was admitted at a local health facility after
exhibiting symptoms of Pneumonia.
She was later discharged on January 12
after President William Ruto cleared her Ksh.1 million bill that
barred her from leaving the premises.
