She startled internet users after firing back
at Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto over remarks he made about the
Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Monday.
DP Ruto was
giving an example of how dairy commodities from Kenya are in high demand in
both regional and international markets, when he made a statement that implied
that the DRC has no cows.
"...Na
tuko na soko kuanzia hapa DRC hao wako na 90 million people na hawana hata
ng'ombe moja," DP Ruto said.
She came out
guns blazing chastising the DP, labelling the remarks as insulting, and further
urging him to take back the utterances.
“Mr. Vice
Preisident William Ruto, this is really unacceptable, with all due respect
there is a need to withdraw this statement. If #DRC did not have a single cow
how could Kenya sign economic deals with DRC. EquityBCDC is currently making
money in Congo, this an insult,” she tweeted.
Sparking off
mixed reactions, tweeps and Instagram users were tossed into a bogglement,
wondering 'who is this hitting out at Kenya's Deputy President?'
She is a
Senator in the Central African nation, and her mighty name is Francine Furaha
Muyumba.
Joining the
Senate in 2019, 34-year-old politician and activist Muyumba was one of the
youngest people elected to the House then.
Prior to the
position, she served as the president of the Panafrican Youth Union (PYU), the
official youth body of the African Union, from November 2015 to April 2019.
While
serving there she was lauded both locally and globally in her role, for youth
entrepreneurship and youth job creation to support peace and stability on the
African continent.
Also, in her
role as president of the PYU, Muyumba increased collaboration and goal-setting
with international bodies and the African Union through her work with African
Union.
She
graduated from the University of Namibia in 2011 with a Bachelor of Arts honors
degree.
Muyumba is
also a wife, mother of two; namely 'E&V', as she identifies them on her
twitter profile.
