Migori County Department of Water in collaboration with the water police unit has arrested four people accused of vandalizing water pipes valued at about Ksh.2.3 million.

The chief officer in the Department of Water and Energy Fidel Majiwa said the four suspects were arrested and handed over to the police pending arraignment

Majiwa said the suspects are accused of vandalizing water pipes connecting Kawa and Ngege areas in Suna East Sub-county which are one-kilometre apart.

He said the destruction of the water pipes has led to a water crisis in the regions connected with the vandalized water pipes.

The chief officer said they want to ensure that the suspects are subjected to necessary legal action so that they can be a lesson to other vandals.

He has appealed to members of the public to work closely with the government to protect the water projects done by the government, non-governmental organizations, and even individuals from such destruction.

Meanwhile, Majiwa said the crackdown on individuals with illegally connected water is ongoing.
