Four killed in accident on Kisii-Oyugis Road
The deceased persons, two men and two women, died on the spot in the accident which involved a lorry and a motorcycle on Thursday evening.
According to Charles Okach, an eyewitness, the accident occurred when the lorry which was ferrying soap stones from Kisii town hit the motorcycle carrying three pillion passengers from Nyang’iela trading centre towards Oyugis town.
It was reported that the boboda rider entered the highway without considering whether there was any on coming vehicle.
Okach said the lorry hooted to alert the rider but this did not happen since both the motorcycle and the lorry were speeding.
After hitting the passengers and the rider, the lorry lost control and overturned on the road side.
Residents called on the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to erect bumps on the two roads to reduce road carnage.
Rachuonyo South Sub-County Police Commander Lilies Wachira confirmed the accident saying they have launched investigations as she urged road users to be careful by observing traffic rules.
The four bodies were moved to Rachuonyo South Sub County Hospital mortuary.
