Four Kenyans threaten to sue Bishop Edward Mwai over Ksh.20M Ruto donation

Days after Jesus Winner Ministry church and its Bishop Edward Mwai, came under sharp criticism for receiving President William Ruto's Ksh.20 million, four individuals now want the preacher to surrender the cash to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

In a demand letter drafted by Ndegwa and Ndegwa Associates, the four - Kennedy Kariithi Gachenge, Lempaa Soyinka, Fanya Mambo and Peter Kuira - said the funds are suspected to be proceeds of crime as the President did not disclose the source.

The letter indicated that the huge donation came at a time when the Auditor General flagged public institutions such as the Social Health Authority (SHA) for engaging in massive corruption schemes.

"This therefore means, that by dint of your actions of receiving the said suspected amount, you are aiding and abetting the commission of a crime of corruption," the letter read in part.

Further, the letter questioned how the Head of State could donate funds that are 20 times his salary (while promising another Ksh.100 million), citing that the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) capped his gross monthly salary at Ksh.1,443,750.

The four individuals appealed to the church to either surrender the funds to the EACC, failure in which they would be forced to seek legal action.

Adding to the institution's woes, Kenyans have threatened to occupy the church on Sunday to protest against the donation.
