Former Transport CS Eng. Michael Kamau released on bail

Former Transport CS Eng. Michael Kamau on Friday pleaded not guilty to abuse of office charges against him and released on a cash bail of Ksh.500,000.

In his ruling, Magistrate Douglas Ogoti further directed the former CS to present himself at the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) for processing.

Earlier, Kamau had failed to take plea seeking to have the anti-corruption court stay the criminal proceedings until the Supreme Court hears and determines his appeal.

The prosecution, through lawyer Ashimosi Shitabasi, however told the court that the Court of Appeal had dismissed Kamau’s appeal and that the prosecution was given the green light to continue with the case.

Kamau is charged in relation to the Kamukunywa Kaaptama -Kapsokwony Sirisia road in Bungoma that led to the loss of public funds.

Kamau has since put up a spirited fight against his prosecution insisting it is a witch hunt based on pure malice.
