Former Senator David Musila declares bid for Kitui governor seat

Former Kitui Senator David Musila has thrown his hat in the race for the Kitui governorship seat ahead of the August General Elections.

Musila made the announcement on Sunday in Kitui as he pledged to root out corruption and streamline services in the county.

The former Mwingi South Member of Parliament urged residents to support his candidacy while expressing confidence in improving service delivery in the country and closing corruption loopholes to increase revenue for the country.

“Mkinisupport nyinyi watu wa Kitui kwa kunipigia kura, mimi nitapunguza zile shida mlionazo hapa kwa sababu nitamaliza ufisadi na wizi wa pesa za umma,” Musila stated.

“I will stop corruption and get the money to educate our children, build roads, provide medicine in our hospitals and do anything we want because it will be enough.”

In the nominations, the former lawmaker who is running on Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Democratic Party ticket will now compete with former Kitui Governor Julius Malombe and Ambassador Kiema Kilonzo for the party's ticket.

With less than five months until the August 9 election, the battle for the county's top seat is heating up, with the aforementioned candidates vying to unseat incumbent Governor Charity Ngilu..

Governor Ngilu was elected in 2017 on NARC party ticket after trouncing Malombe who was defending his seat on Wiper.

Other candidates who have shown interest in the seat include Kitui Rural MP Makali Mulu and Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi.
