Former navy officer, two others arrested for stealing a tuktuk in Kamulu

A former Kenya Navy officer and two other individuals have been arrested on suspicion of being part of a motorcycle theft syndicate operating in Nairobi's Ruai and Kamulu areas. 

The trio, Peter Kamau Muniu, Timothy Irungu Karimi and Antony Maina Njoroge, were apprehended by DCI detectives following a surge in motorcycle thefts in both locations. 

"The three who are believed to be the architects of the illegal dealings were pursued and arrested following a tuktuk theft report by the devastated owner, who parked it on Tuesday night after work but found it missing the next day," the DCI said in a statement on X. 

"Taking up the matter, the officers conducted an intelligence-led operation in Kamulu, recovering the said tuktuk reg. no. KTWB 975T within the homestead of Peter Kamau Muniu (a former Kenya Navy officer) with the other two suspects in the process of dismantling it." 

Detectives likewise discovered a maroon Jin Cheng motorcycle, Reg. No. KMDN 972B and a silver Nissan Wingroad, Reg. No.  KCD 143Y, at the scene. They suspect utilized the vehicles to distribute stolen motorcycle parts.

Both vehicles were confiscated and detained at Ruai Police Station.

"Two other known suspects said to have sneaked away during the raid are being pursued," said the DCI.
