Former MP Amos Kimunya’s wife Lucy is dead
Former
Kipipiri Member of Parliament Amos Kimunya has announced the death of his wife Lucy.
The former
National Assembly Majority Leader said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that Lucy
passed on while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
“It
is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that I wish to announce
that this Tuesday morning at 3:00 am my dear wife Lucy went to be with the lord
while receiving care at Nairobi Hospital,” wrote Kimunya.
The
former MP, who also served as minister, described his departed
wife as a pillar in his personal and political life who will be remembered for
championing youth and women’s causes.
“She
was a key pillar in both my personal and political life, she contributed
immensely to making our society greener through various initiatives and
supporter of the youth and women. Go well our dear Lucy, we will miss you
dearly,” said Kimunya.
Further
details about Lucy’s send-off will be communicated in due course, he added.
Kimunya
was appointed as Minister of Finance by former President Mwai Kibaki in 2006 and
remained in the docket during President Kibaki’s second term after the 2007
general election.
He
resigned from the cabinet in July 2008 to pave the way for a probe into the sale
of the Grand Regency Hotel.
In
November of that year, an official inquiry cleared the former minister of any
wrongdoing and Kimunya was reappointed to the cabinet by Kibaki as Minister of
Trade in January 2009.
