Former Miss Universe-Kenya Rachel Mbuki stuns at BET Awards red carpet
The East African Queen looked exquisite in a gown by Willy Franco.
"This was a dream for me, but leo niko hapa na mimi ni Mkenya!' an elated Mbuki said on Instagram.
Ms Mbuki relocated to the US from Langata circa 2007 and has slowly, but steadily risen through the ranks to become Sheen Magazine US correspondent.
Her media gig, like her taste in high fashion, grants her the opportunity to hob nob with Hollywood top talents; from Taraji P Henson, to Mariah Carey, Lizzo and among others, Terrence J.
And although the sight of Kenyan actors gracing the red carpet is commonplace; journalists shining at that top level is new, and presents new opportunities for weproducers, film makers, script writers, entertainment journalists, columnists.
On what she thinks makes it harder for Kenyans to grow together Ms Mbuki said Kenyans have a habit of tearing each other down.
"Compared to how Nigerians and other countries celebrate each other, I think we have an inferiority complex. We will fall over people from other countries but we’ll be quick to tear down each other," Ms Mbuki told Citizen Digital.
"But once you make it, suddenly its adoration and go go Kenyan! We don’t want someone thinking they can do better or be better than us.”
