Former Kisii County Assembly Speaker David Ondimu Kombo was on Monday arraigned before the Kisii Anti-Corruption Court on charges of abuse of office.

Kombo is accused of using his position to unlawfully facilitate the appointment of one Everline Moraa Maraburi to the role of Clerical Officer, allegedly bypassing both the County Assembly Board and the laid-down recruitment procedures.

Maraburi is the Kisii County Assembly’s Deputy Clerk Daniel Mbaka Omwoyo's niece.

The prosecution, led by Job Okelo, told the court that the offence took place around October 24, 2017, within the premises of the Kisii County Assembly.

Kombo is alleged to have committed the offence in collusion with Omwoyo, who has already been charged separately over the same appointment.

Appearing before Magistrate Joshua Nyariki, Kombo denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.50,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh.100,000.

The court scheduled the matter for mention on April 14, 2025, with a view to consolidating it with the case against Deputy Clerk Omwoyo.
