Former Governor Obado had no reason to kill Sharon Otieno, Court told

Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado

Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado had no reason to kill the late Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and her unborn child.

This came out during the cross-examination of a witness who had told the court that Sharon wanted to live a life equivalent to that of a Goversor's wife.

Former Homa Bay County MCA Lawrence Mula, while being cross-examined, told the court that Obado had shared with his family that he impregnated Sharon and that he was expecting a child with her.

Although Obado was not sure whether the unborn child was his, Sharon Otieno had agreed to conduct a DNA once the child was born

"Everything had been settled. I don't see why Obado would want to kill based on how things went and the support he gave to Sharon," Lawrence Mula said.

The court was told that Sharon sent a photo of her baby bump to one of Obado's sons called Dan on WhatsApp and asked her to send it to his mother.

"Obado had already shared with his wife about Sharon," the court was told.

According to Mula, Sharon and Dan were friends on Facebook.

Mula in his testimony in chief told the court how Sharon demanded to be recognised as Obado's wife and even went ahead to demand for a house worth Ksh.20-25 million shillings.

However, Obado is said to have complained of the high demands and offered to build her a house and furnish it in Homa Bay; deal that Sharon agreed to.

"We agreed that we look for a piece of land costing about Ksh.800,000 so that the governor buys the plot and builds her the house," Mula testified

This was to be done in August 2018.

Mula said that there was a time they met Oyamo together with Sharon when she was given the Ksh.200,000 for her prenatal care and after some time she asked him (Oyamo) to keep off the matter.

"She told me she was going to meet Oyamo in Rongo to get some money for her upkeep, I told her it's okay," Mula submitted.

The hearing continues.
