Former Chief Justice David Maraga has declared his readiness to lead the country, citing his exemplary track record at the helm of the judiciary.

Speaking after a public lecture in Migori County, Maraga, with a measured yet confident tone, affirmed that he possesses the experience and integrity needed to lead the nation.

Drawing from his tenure at the judiciary's helm, he spoke with conviction about his record, exuding confidence in his ability to steer the country toward a just and accountable future.

"It is because of that confidence that one can make a decision on whether or not they can serve. I have served before in government; I was the head of one arm of government. There is no magic about being the head of another arm of government," said Maraga.

Taking a direct swipe at President William Ruto, Maraga condemned what he termed "budgeted corruption," accusing the government of diverting crucial resources meant for national development. He decried the misallocation of funds, which he said had crippled key projects, including the controversial Social Health Authority (SHA), leaving both Kenyans and healthcare workers struggling under its weight.

"I cannot advise him, but with what is going on in the country, it would be good if he listened to the public to see what they are complaining about and crying over," added the former CJ.

In what appeared to be a pitch for the youth vote, Maraga urged young people to embrace their civic duty and become active champions of good governance. He emphasized that their voices and choices hold the power to shape the country's future, calling on them to demand accountability and leadership that truly serves the people.

"I challenge each one of you to be champions of justice and accountability. Stand fearless against a stubborn system that lures young minds into service for political cartels," he said.

However, the former CJ noted that he is still in consultations and will announce his final decision on his political ambitions at the appropriate time.
