Former Citizen TV Managing Editor Herman Igambi succumbs to cancer
Veteran journalist and former Citizen TV
Managing Editor Herman Igambi has died following a lengthy battle with brain
cancer.
The journalist, known for his dedication,
commitment, and nurturing of talent in the media industry, died on Monday at
his home village in Burunda, Saboti Constituency, in Trans-Nzoia County.
Family and friends gathered at his home, with
his wife narrating how his illness forced him to undergo a number of
operations, including eye and brain surgery, which later resulted in severe
complications that weakened his body.
Igambi had been spending most of his retirement
days in the village after he was diagnosed in 2015.
"Alipotoka kazini alianza kuwa mdhaifu…na
katika hiyo hali alipata matibabu mbalimbali," said Igambi's
wife Susan Igambi.
"Imefika mwaka huu mwezi wa nane
akazidiwa akapatikana na stroke mkono wa kushoto. Na alipata stroke, hakuweza
kuzungumza. Alimaliza miezi nne akiwa tu chini kulala bila kunena. Imefika
tarehe tisa ikawa ndio mwisho."
During his career in the media industry,
Igambi worked in different media stations, such as the Kenya Broadcasting
Corporation (KBC), Kenya Television Network (KTN), and Citizen TV, where he
demonstrated dedication, excellence, and commitment to his work.
"Alipokuwa kazini ali mentor wanahabari
shupavu kama Catherine Kasavuli, Boke na wengine. Tunaomba tuwe pamoja ili
tumpee a befitting send-off," a neighbor, Stephine Eboyi, said.
"Hajakuwa akikula kwa mdomo… tulimpenda
sana lakini Mungu akampenda zaidi," said another neighbor, Grace
Wanjiku.
Rosemary Murunda added: "Mtu mzima
kulala chini miezi nne sio rahisi… wacha alale mahali pema peponi."
Burial preparations for the deceased veteran
are underway, with friends, family, and colleagues eulogizing him as a mentor,
citing the legacy and gap he has left behind that assures his place in the
history of journalism and media.
