Form one student nursing burn injuries after school dormitory fire

A student from Masogo mixed secondary school in Kadibo sub-county is nursing burn injuries at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) in Kisumu following a fire incident at the school dormitory.

The form one student was rushed to the facility last night after the incident having suffered 36% burns on her body.

Eight other students were taken to the port Florence hospital in the Molem area with minor injuries sustained during the commotion when the fire broke out.

John Otuko, the school principal says the incident burnt down a 124-capacity girls’ dormitory with all belongings going up in flames.

Police have kicked off investigations to establish the cause of the 12 am midnight fire incident that has now left hundreds of students stranded.

The school administration is now appealing to well-wishers to come to their aid and support the girls who lost their belongings in the incident so as to enable them to continue learning.
