Police in Migori County have launched investigations into the death of a Form Four female student at Nyarongi Mixed Secondary School in Suna East Sub-county.

Area Assistant Chief George Owiti said the candidate aged 20 years committed suicide in the dormitory on Wednesday morning.

Mr. Owiti said a day before the student committed suicide, she is reported to have exhibited symptoms of depression adding that she repeatedly indicated that she wanted to kill herself.

The area Assistant chief pointed out that on the night of August 3, 2021, the girl’s friends kept her company the whole night to sure she does not commit suicide.

He said the girl was today morning handed over to a teacher who offered her some counseling as the school waited for her parents to arrive. However, when the teacher left shortly to take breakfast the candidate rushed to the dormitory and hang herself using a cloth.

Mr. Owiti said the student committed suicide while other learners were in the classrooms sitting for their Continuous Assessment Test (CAT).

It could not be immediately established why the student killed herself.
