A Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) court has fined two foreign nationals to either pay a fine of Ksh. 30 million each or serve a 12-month prison sentence for trafficking narcotic drugs.

The duo was apprehended on March 13, 2024, following a sting operation at the Nyamakima area conducted by the Transnational Organised Crimes Unit drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

After interrogation, the two suspects directed the detectives to their areas of residence at Umoja and Sunton, respectively, where they found 39.04 grammes of heroin and 25.71 grammes of cannabis.

The duo was subsequently charged with violating the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, which dictates that anyone caught in possession of narcotic drugs of 50 mg or less should face a fine not less than Ksh. 10 million.

After being processed and arraigned in court, they pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced.

The court also ordered the duo to be repatriated back to their country of origin upon completion of the sentence or payment of a fine.

The court also directed the narcotic drugs to be destroyed.
