Over 200 families in Kibiri Ward, Karachuonyo constituency have been displaced after heavy floods swept through Kojwang sublocation in Katonde, Homa Bay county.

The flooding caused by water from Homa Hills has left a trail of destruction, washing away farms, livestock, and property.

At least 96 families have lost almost everything, including their homes and livelihoods, as over 100 hectares of farmland was washed downstream.

Currently, around 70 households have sought refuge at Kandiege Primary School, where they have been camping for the past three days.

Victims have urged the government and relevant authorities to aptly address the matter and provide aid to those in dire need.

Meanwhile, local authorities and humanitarian agencies are assessing the damage as efforts to provide relief and support to the displaced families continue.
